Kameole II beach
Heavy rains in the morning leave full waterfalls in the afternoon, on the road to the Kaupo gap.
The old wheels are no longer needed...as computers bring water to the sugarcane fields.
Along Maui's west coast, there is a beautful two mile stretch of three public sandy beaches, each named Kamaole.
Friends have told me they call this "Roots".
In the 1800s, highland rivers were tapped by a series of diversion channels to provide water for the growing sugarcane industry.
